When should I take a class?

I recommend taking labor class around 30 weeks and completed if possible by 36 weeks so you have time to practice.  Breastfeeding and Newborn care to be completed by 38 weeks.

Won"t the hospital/or midwife teach me everything I need to know?

The answer is yes and no.  They will teach parents a lot but unfortunately studies show us that knowledge at that time after delivery is not well retained. Why you ask? You have 24-48 hours of time where you have slept very little had a giant life change and no less then 20 people have been in and out of your house or room.

What if I want an epidural?

Thats fine with me.  Remember this is not a judgement class in fact we discuss epidurals at length and its not like they are the great evil.  You have to get to the point of getting an epidural first and this class can help.

Breastfeeding should be natural right, why would I need a class?

Well yes it should be if people did it all the time and everyone we knew did it we could just pop over to put neighbors to check a latch.  Natural does not mean easy.   Studies show that one of the best predictors of sucsess is partner support, and prenatal education.  This class is designed to make you a team to get through those first few weeks.  There is partner support jobs in this class that will get you started and keep you going.

I read a baby book why do I need a class on newborns?

Well honestly there is nothing like actually talking to a real person, face to face about this.  One of the most common responses I get after a newborn class is there was so much that I thought I knew that I didnt know.  I love to have generations come to class.  So much has changed over the years.
